About Peter A. Gold, Psy.D.

Dr. Peter Gold, Psy.D. is a University of Florida Alumni and has been a full-time College of Medicine Clinical Faculty member in the Department of Psychiatry since 2008. While in the UF COM Medical Psychology division, Dr. Gold has been providing clinical leadership, expertise, and psychotherapy services along with comprehensive post-doctoral residency training and supervision; medical student clerkship education and mentoring; and national and state psychology licensure preparation services while serving as the Director of Community Psychology, Department of Psychiatry’s office in Vero Beach for the previous 15 years. Dr. Gold has also served as an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at St. George University Collège of Medicine.

Dr. Gold has been serving clients from the greater Indian River County, Vero Beach community for more than 15 years, seeing clients in person and via telehealth. While in Vero Beach, he has provided comprehensive, evidence-based psychotherapy and psychoeducational assessment, evaluation, treatment, clinical services for local, state, and national clientele. He has specialized in multiple clinical applications, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Acceptance and Commitment, Supportive, Couple’s, Family, and Addiction Medicine-related psychotherapies. Further, Dr. Gold has maintained psychotherapy clients throughout the state, extending from the Tallahassee/Gainesville/Tampa/Orlando areas south to Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Saint Lucie, Martin, and Volusia Counties across the state of Florida for many years. Dr. Gold also provides national therapy services for out-of-state clients and seasonal residents from many other states across the US from coast to coast.  

While at the Vero Beach UF Center for Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine, Dr. Gold has been invited to provide expertise to numerous community mental health panels as well as media presentations on mental health topics such as Major Depressive Disorders, Anxiety Disorder, Addiction Medicine, PTSD, OCD, ADHD, Neurodevelopmental Disorders, ADHD, Autism Spectrum, and Personality Disorders. Dr. Gold has also provided consultation services (clinical and comprehensive psychoeducational) and academic/learning services for the Saint Edwards School, and psychology lecture/educational presentations for the Bolles School in Jacksonville, Florida.  

Prior to his Vero Beach University of Florida College of Medicine clinical faculty position, Dr. Gold served in multiple local, state, and national leadership roles, including clinical directorship and administrative positions. He has served in an extensive variety of mental health and medical settings over the years, including private and public inpatient adult, adolescent, and child psychiatric hospitals and outpatient settings; Pediatric Neuropsychology assessment settings; Addiction Medicine evaluation/treatment and Neuropsychiatric settings; and Level 1 Trauma and ICU settings, in Academic Medicine/Psychiatric facilities. Dr. Gold has also provided numerous hospital-based, professional, and community mental health agency lectures and multimedia presentations about mental health issues throughout the state.

Dr. Gold has appeared on the CBS Morning News, NBC, ABC, and CNN, and has been quoted in Newsweek Magazine, South Florida Business Journal, and Florida Trend Magazine. He has attended multiple state and national conferences over the years, and has had the privilege to work alongside world-renowned experts, educators, researchers, and journal and book authors in the field of Psychiatry, Addiction Medicine, and Psychology for over 40 years.  

Dr. Gold is also a current member of the Active Medical Staff, maintaining medical staff privileges with the University of Florida Shands Health Care Network and the Memorial Regional Healthcare System at Memorial Regional Hospital. While at the Memorial Healthcare System, Dr. Gold served as a Neuropsychologist on the Orthopedic, Neurological, and Rehabilitation evaluation and treatment unit. Dr. Gold’s clientele included patients who suffered strokes, traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, cognitive dysfunction/disorders, and emotional/psychological adjustment issues. He additionally co-facilitated bi-weekly ICU and Trauma unit support groups for individuals and families. Dr. Gold attended daily medical rounds while working collaboratively with physicians in the Trauma, Neurological, Neurosurgery, Orthopedic, Rehabilitation, and ICU departments, and other specialty physicians and treatment team members. Dr. Gold also provided neuropsychological assessment services for the Clinical Trial Consortium research project. 

Dr. Gold has maintained active memberships with the American Psychological Association, Florida Psychological Association, National Academy of Neuropsychology, International Neuropsychological Society, and the University of Florida Alumni Association. He is listed in the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology. 

Dr. Gold is looking forward to continuing his outpatient psychotherapy services in the Vero Beach community along with providing statewide and national psychotherapy, supervision, and consultation services. On a personal note, Dr. Gold was raised in the North Caldwell, New Jersey area prior to relocating during his high school years to Florida with his family. Dr. Gold continues to enjoy living in the Vero Beach community and is active with a variety of interests, including biking, boating, golfing, attending community art and music festivals, traveling, and spending with family and friends.
